f: Such a happy family!!!

k: I love those shots! I am up for one or two or a few

oh my gods

time to bitch

how is it possible to be notified of a package that arrived here on august 2, on the 16th? i had the mom send me something i need by week's end, and it's now lost somewhere in the world. fan fucking tastic. i ran around in circles in fitzroy today trying to find the damn post office. something else that could use improving is the numbering system and street signs. street signs, sometimes they're there, sometimes they're not. one side of the street could be in the 80s and across the street it could be in the 200s. AND! sometimes, they will just decide to start over. 180 x street can suddenly restart at #5. excellent logic!

while i'm hating, the majority of people mutter and whisper to themselves. that is how they talk. i am constantly leaning in and saying what?! and i know my ears aren't that bad since i've been wearing earplugs at shows.

and now, i return to accounting hell.

ps, WHY did i order fish from an indian place again? chomping down on skin and bones, really not pleasant.

price gauging

why is everything so expensive here??

face powder
us price: $30
aus price $80

bike basket
us price $10
aus price $50

hip flask $25

soda from 7-11 $3.20

bottle of water low low price of $2.50!

this is shitting me. also, could you boys cut it out with the flavor savers? they are rampant over here. just shave it all off or grow some nice stubble! the weird facial hair really isn't on.

bikey bikey

i decided to be ambitious last night and bike into the city for drinks. i think i did alright besides for getting a bit nervous when having to squeeze in between 2 lanes of cars at some intersections (those making a left turn and those going straight). post drinks, i was invited to a show in brunswick. i was hemming and hawing about going, since it's out of the way for me. finally i decided to put up or shut up, and go and have a late night out. i rode along and along and along, and had a funny but nice experience. it was of being buzzed, riding around in the dark alone somewhere i'd never been before, with no idea where i was going. and i enjoyed it. then i went waaaayyy farther down sydney road than i had to but hey, i had a nice tour of it and there weren't TOO many cars. i passed through the iraqi part of town, which was interesting. jimjim said he'd take me to a delicious iraqi restaurant and his description of the foods made my mouth water. i'm looking forward to it. i gave up when the commercial section was over and was going to pedal it home, and on the way i of course saw the pub. i stopped in for a drink and a chat, and rolled into bed at 1am. gasp of horror! surely not on a weeknight...

tonight

i celebrated my 1 month anniversary here, as well as perhaps my finally letting go of my deathgrip on ny. i couldn't for the life of me remember what a metcard was in ny-speak. i was really struggling. finally, it came to me. metrocard. weird how i could forget that. anyway, i celebrated with the flatties with my newly bought killara estate 2004 shiraz. it was yums. all gone now.

what's in a name?

a sampling that i've seen recently:
dewsberry kingsworth
cherry dong

ruh oh

i may have become a bike person, effective last night. it was way too cold to ride, but i needed to get to class in under 30. let's just say it was much better than the k-mart bike i'd tried before.

don't worry, i won't be racing or riding a fixie anytime soon.

beautiful

i had the best sunday yesterday in ages. went for a drive in the yarra valley, which is only an hour away, and did some wine-tasting (or chugging). bought a few bottles, had nice conversations with the winery owners, got pretty toasted, had a pub meal, and polished it off with a fresh, warm jam donut. krispy kreme, not quite. i passed out for nearly three hours when i got home, catching up on some sleep. lovely lovely day.

is it wrong

to actively be smirking over the shit weather hitting ny for all the good shows? yeah yeah, i'm a bad person.

whatever, i am sitting here happy as a pig in shit to have a stapler (with staples) and to, i think, be able to wear jeans on casual fridays. never did i ever think i'd work somewhere like this.

i wanted to cry when i woke up this morning

it was still dark out. when i got into the bathroom, it looked like i had indeed been crying. my eyes were all bloodshot, etc. why the hell is it necessary to start the day at 8! someone please give me one good reason.

for errone admiring the baywatch poster in my house

Image via Pacific Coast News - don't sue me!

and ouch

i inquired what the work hours were tonight. i was told, 8-5. i was crying, no SOBBING on the inside. but i think i managed a professional, "oh, ok."

9:45 mornings, fare thee well!

swish

i got an assignment in the cbd for 4-6 weeks. it's in a gorgeous building and there are plenty of lunch options nearby. plus, i only have to take one tram to work. victory! i'm doing admin for accounts payable for an oil co, so it's not like super exciting, but whatev. heated bathrooms with warm water! coffee machine! biweekly fruit delivery! be still my beating heart.

whimper

i didn't think that my yoga classes would be one of the things i missed most here. i see a lot of gentle, beginner type classes. there's not much approaching the kind of challenging classes i'm used to. i tried one place near my house the other night. "dynamic hatha" should have really been called stretching 101. there was well over 30 minutes of stretching and flapping of arms overhead, rubbing of faces. wtf. what a waste of time and money. i was getting all aggro and agitated. plus the instructor was german, i believe, with a heavy accent and very high-pitched voice. hardly relaxing...

the gyms also tend to skew towards the ghetto. just, really old equipment. i'm such a spoiled new yorker.
