walked out to meet the tram and it was drizzling. a girl i don't know held her umbrella out to cover me. i am floored!

i never want to ride a fucking bike again

i was supposed to see a house a few towns over today. i thought i might catch a ride with d since i remembered she got home from work early. it got later and later and for some reason, instead of taking the tram like a normal person, i decided it would be a good idea to jump on the bike and cycle over there. 3.5 kms away, 8 minutes by car. i thought it would be an easy 20m ride. fuck. that. i actually have no idea how long it took me to get there, but it was a lot farther than i thought it was, and this is on a bike from kmart. i'm a sweaty shaking mess by the time i get there and have dodged death about 5 times. it got to be too late to ride back, the sun was going down and i was wearing dark clothes. the guy gave me a ride back despite my reluctance and ny-bred suspicion. thank god for nice people. CLEARLY i am still jetlagged. i never would have considered doing this in a normal state.

so here i am

in melbourne. it is cold. not really, but in my last minute packing frenzy, i didn't pack any cold weather accessories and didn't think my winter jacket would be necessary. incorrect. the most unsettling thing may be that houses don't all have their heating on so it's like an icebox inside. i have the bestest hosts i could hope for. i've got my own space heater which i turn up to get toasty warm. i'm hustling baby, trying to find a job. i've got 3 appointments lined up with temp agencies tomorrow. i've never done a typing test, wonder how i'll do? it's strange being back, a lot of things are the same. the transient nature of ny it does not have, not that that's a bad thing. at least i'm not totally disorientated. i recognize many stores and restaurants.

i noticed a pair of shoes in target, i think, that were EXACT rip-offs of my dolce vita wedges. wtf? i brought them across the world for nothing! also, a petite, soft-spoke asian bank teller's nametag said: leticia. heh. also, there is a korova milk bar outpost here? exact same logo. for another touch of home, i spotted chop't and new york burger co. i had lunch at a nice veg cafe near where i'm staying. i spotted 3 cute, but young, guys. i might just have to become a regular.

yeah, i'm in the land where complete strangers will offer to give me a lift from the airport and to hang out since i don't know anyone here. from the goodness of their hearts, i believe. it's restoring my belief in humanity.

holy delicious. i have a new obsession: vita coco drinks. sooo yum. i had a coconut water with peach and mango. i want so much more.

they've gone and made a great record with twilight of the innocents, after a few very forgettable records of mostly filler. a+ effort guys. plus, tim wheeler got tatted up and even hotter sometime in the years i wasn't paying any attention.
